Sharon Small

Sharon Small (born January 1, 1967 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a British actress .

biography

Small is the oldest child of five siblings. She graduated from the Mountview Academy of Theater Arts in 1989 and began working on stage at the National Theater in London and Sam Mendes' Donmar Warehouse , among others . Other theater roles were the Elaine from arsenic and lace , Cinderella and the Catherine in Emily Brontës Sturmhöhe . Permanent engagements have taken her to the Royal Court Theater and the Sheffield Crucible Theater .

Small became known beyond the UK for her role as Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers in the BBC film adaptations of Elisabeth George's crime novels The Inspector Lynley Mysteries . By 2007 she played this role in 23 episodes and was rewarded with nominations for best actress at the Golden Satellite Award and the TV Choice Award.

Small was also successful in the cinema, so in 1997 she won the award for best actress at the Edinburgh Film Festival for her role in Bumping the Odds . 2002 she starred in About a Boy on the side of Hugh Grant and 2004 in Dear Frankie , along with Emily Mortimer and Jack McElhone . Small lives in North London with her husband and their two children.
