Ronald Sanders

Ronald Edward Sanders (born June 20, 1945 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian film editor .

Life

Ronald Sanders, son of the projectionist George Arthur Sanders, studied English history and political science at St. John's College of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg until 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During his studies he was already working as a camera assistant for student films. His passion for films drew him to Toronto in the late 1960s . Initially he worked as an editor for documentaries. From the beginning of the 1970s he began working increasingly on feature films, initially sound editing and soon afterwards also film editing .

In 1979, Sanders first worked for director David Cronenberg at the film Fast Company . That was the beginning of an ongoing, close collaboration that now includes 17 films with Maps to the Stars , which was released in 2014 . Sanders received the Genie Award for the best cut for four of them ( Dead Ringers , Crash , eXistenZ , Eastern Promises ). For the film Spider , also by Cronenberg, he received the 2003 Directors Guild of Canada Team Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Feature Film , for which he was also nominated for Best Editing. However , he only received this award and the San Diego Film Critics Society Award for Best Editing three years later for Cronenberg's film A History of Violence .

In addition to his longstanding collaboration with Cronenberg, Sanders has also worked on productions by numerous other directors, including Henry Selick's animated film Coraline , which premiered at the Portland International Film Festival in early February 2009 .

Sanders also edited films for television stations such as HBO ( A Month of Sundays ); for Dead Silence he received a Gemini nomination.

Ronald Sanders has a daughter, Emma Claire, and has been married to Marilyn Dill since September 26, 1969.
