action

The series is about Laurel Healy, who comes from a dynasty of US Democrats. She left Washington, DC to become a documentary filmmaker, but is returning for financial reasons and starts working in her brother, a senator's office. Laurel discovers that the brains of some employees and politicians have been taken over by aliens.

production

Robert and Michelle King (2015)

BrainDead is Robert and Michelle King's first project as part of a three-year production contract with CBS Television Studios that the couple signed in September 2014. On July 22, 2015, the broadcaster CBS announced that it had ordered a 13-episode season. On March 17, 2016, a start date for June 13, 2016 was announced. On September 10, 2015, it was announced that Mary Elizabeth Winstead had received the lead role. A month later, Aaron Tveit was successfully cast. In November 2015, Danny Pino , who left the NBC series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit six months earlier , in which he had a leading role from 2011 to 2015, was offered the role of Democratic Senator Luke Healy. On February 4, 2016, Tony Shalhoub joined the main cast. On April 26, 2016, MTV exclusively published the first teaser for BrainDead .

In October 2016, CBS announced the discontinuation of the series after the first season. In mid-January 2017, Mary Elizabeth Winstead told the Television Critics Association Panel on the occasion of the presentation of the third season of Fargo that BrainDead had not been discontinued because of unsatisfied audience ratings, but because the broadcaster had decided that the series did not fit into the scheme of a typical CBS series production ("I think it didn't quite fit in with the typical cbs lineup"). The conception as a political series does not fit into the regular audience of CBS. Winstead also emphasized that BrainDead would probably have been extended by a second season on another broadcaster, such as FX .

publication

The pilot episode premiered on June 20, 2016 in Australia on Eleven television, which is part of the Network Ten broadcasting company . The DVD release took place on December 6th, 2016. A DVD set consisting of four discs was released, which contain all 13 episodes, which come to a total of 560 minutes (9 hours & 20 minutes).
