Baron Bryan
Baron Bryan (also Brian ) was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .
Awarding and Abeyance
The title was created on November 25, 1350 as Barony by writ for Sir Guy Bryan , when he was called to Parliament by Writ of Summons . He was an Anglo-Norman knight who owned Laugharne Castle in South Wales. When he died on April 17, 1390, his eldest son Sir Guy de Bryan († 1386) had already died, but had left two daughters, so that the title in Abeyance fell between them. The Abeyance was never formally ended, although between 1406 and 1571 some of his descendants would have formally granted the title. These are therefore listed below as “ de jure barons”, although they never officially carried the title.
After the childless death of the older daughter Philippa in 1406, the legal claim to the title fell to her sister Elizabeth, after her death to her daughter Maud. 1436 inherited their only son Humphrey FitzAlan, 15th Earl of Arundel the right to the title. After his death in 1438 the right to the title fell to his half-sister Avice Stafford, Countess of Ormonde and after her death in 1457 to her distant cousin Eleanor, Countess of Northumberland , a descendant of the daughter from Guy Bryan's first marriage. Their heirs were the Earls of Northumberland from the House of Percy . With the conviction of Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland , the right to the title lapsed in 1571.
