Love goes strange ways (Original title: Love Is Strange ) is an American , romantic drama from 2014 . Ira Sachs as screenwriter and director draws relationships around a gay, middle-aged couple with a stable, mature relationship in a life change.

action

After a relationship of almost 40 years, the two sedate, cultured New Yorkers George (Alfred Molina) and Ben (John Lithgow) are finally allowed to marry and they do so in an idyllic ceremony in Manhattan. Shortly afterwards, George loses his job as a music teacher in a Catholic school. Without his salary, the two can no longer afford their apartment and are confronted with the ruthless real estate market of New York . For a short time they can only find shelter separately with friends and relatives, George with neighbors, two stormy gay police officers, and Ben with a related family with a lively teenager with whom he shares a bunk bed.

The characters of the different generations and living environments and their conflicts are expressed. For example, people in the film reveal themselves through the way they behave in public, as in groups and in private. In their existential crisis, the couple fought silently and with disarming confidence for their great love.

The story is accompanied by impressive images of the city and piano music by Chopin.

Reviews

"Alfred Molina and John Lithgow [...] create a couple who approach autocratic, reigning indolence with disarming confidence and enchants us and themselves with their love."

"Sachs [staged] the story of this act of violence and its consequences not as an accusation, but as a lament, brought to the heart by Lithgow and Molina in the two main roles."

Performances

Since summer 2014 in US cinemas and initially until February 2015 at film festivals, also in Europe.
