Ira Sachs (born November 21, 1965 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American film director .

Life

Sachs studied literature and film theory at Yale University and graduated with a BA. His first work was the short film Lady (1993). He was represented at the Sundance Film Festival with his films The Delta (1997), Forty Shades of Blue (2005) and Married Life (2007) .

In his film Keep the Lights On (2012), which was also represented at the Sundance Film Festival, Sachs addressed his love affair with the literary agent Bill Clegg and his addiction to crack. The film won the Teddy Award at the Berlinale 2012 in the feature film category. His film Little Men was nominated as Best Feature Film for the Transparent Bear in the Generation Kplus section of the 2016 Berlinale .

Sachs is married to the painter Boris Torres and has two children.
