Joel Cohen (born August 23, 1963 ) is an American screenwriter .

Life

Cohen received his Masters degree in English from the State University of New York . He began his career in 1983 with the script for the comedy film Hot Money with Orson Welles, co-written with Phyllis Camesano and Carl DeSantis . In 1983 and 1984 he also worked briefly as an actor and appeared in small roles in The Secret of Centerville and Silver City . In 1987 he was involved as a writer on four episodes of the Howard Stern Show . From 1995 he worked with screenwriter Alec Sokolow , and by 2008 they made ten joint films; including Money Talks - Money Doesn't Stink and Garfield - The Movie . Cohen is active both as a writer of original scripts and in adapting the script, for example in the remake of Cheaper By The Dozen . He celebrated his greatest success in 1996 when he for The Walt Disney Company - animated film Toy Story in the category Best Original Screenplay was nominated for an Oscar. The screenplay was also nominated for the Saturn Award and the Hugo Award . Cohen alone won the Annie Award for his script, which he wrote with Sokolow, among others.
