The Kindergarten Daddy

The Kindergarten Daddy 2: Das Feriencamp (Original title: Daddy Day Camp ) is a 2007 comedy film by director Fred Savage with Cuba Gooding Jr. in the lead role. It is the sequel to the 2003 film The Kindergarten Daddy .

action

After Charlie Hinton and Phil Ryerson succeeded in childcare with Daddy Day Care , Charlie buys down the run-down Camp Driftwood to make it a successful Daddy Day Camp . He has an old rivalry with the nearby Camp Canola and its operator Lance Warner, to whom he lost in his youth at a camp Olympiad. The former Camp Driftwood operator goes on vacation shortly after Charlie gets involved without informing him of the camp's debt to the bank. When the bank representative shows up about the garnishment, Charlie can just persuade him to give him a deadline: He is given a month and has to show at least 30 children as guests. After a few setbacks, he reluctantly calls his father Colonel Buck Hinton for help. Together they and the remaining children succeed in winning against Camp Canola at the Camp Olympics , whereupon numerous parents deregister their children from Camp Canola and enroll in Charlie's successful camp, which saved the camp from foreclosure.

Reviews

John Anderson wrote in Variety magazine on August 6, 2007 that the film suffered from all of the "almost classic" weaknesses in the sequel. The plot re- uses the elements of the original film, which would look like a sitcom ("story that essentially recycles the original's sitcomish elements"). Nobody seems to have striven for anything other than easily earned pay (“no one was really in it for anything but a quick payday”).

Will Crain wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle on August 8, 2007 that the sequel to the first film was "formulaic." It is sad to see the talented Oscar winner Cuba Gooding junior “reduced” in the footsteps of Eddie Murphy, but Gooding makes the best of what the film offers him (“It's a bit sad to see this talented, Oscar-winning actor reduced to taking Murphy's cast-off parts, but Gooding does fine with what the movie gives him "). The film is intended for viewers under the age of 13.

The lexicon of the international film judges: “Everything that can go wrong goes wrong [Note: still relates to the plot] - including almost all the gags of this comedy. No more than a loveless, badly staged number revue with over-the-top actors. "

Awards

  • The film won the 2008 Golden Raspberry negative award in the worst prequel or sequel category .
  • The film was nominated for a Golden Raspberry in 2008 in four other categories: Worst Film , Worst Screenplay , Fred Savage as Worst Director and Cuba Gooding Jr. as Worst Actor .
  • The children's ensemble were nominated for a Young Artist Award 2008.
