Brian Murray (born October 31, 1945 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actor and screenwriter .

Life

Brian Murray is the eldest brother of Bill Murray , with whom he can be seen in a number of films. Doyle is the maiden name of his grandmother, which he adopted to avoid confusion with an actor of the same name. Brian Doyle-Murray has been married to Christina Stauffer since 2000.

Since 1972 Doyle has appeared in over 150 film and television productions, where he is usually seen in supporting roles and particularly frequently in comedies. He played, for example, the kidnapped supervisor of Chevy Chase in National Lampoon (1988) and the almost suffocating at its Essen Mayor Buster Green in Groundhog Day (1993). In the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants he has been lending his voice to the character of the Flying Dutchman since 1999 .

Since the mid-1970s he has also appeared as a screenwriter. As such, he was involved, for example, in madness without a handicap ( Caddyshack ), where he also took on a supporting role. He was also a writer for Saturday Night Live , for which he received three Emmy Award nominations between 1978 and 1980 . As an actor and writer, he often worked with Harold Ramis .
