Veronica Cartwright (born April 20, 1949 in Bristol , England ) is a British actress .

Life

Cartwright made her debut as a child in the war drama Hell, where is your horror from 1958. In the drama Infam (1961) she played opposite Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine . In Alfred Hitchcock's Die Vögel , she played a supporting role as Rod Taylor's little sister Cathy Brenner in 1963 . In the horror film The Body Eaters Come (1978), she played alongside Donald Sutherland .

In the SF horror film Alien (1979), Cartwright played the role of Lambert, next to Ellen Ripley ( Sigourney Weaver ), the second female crew member of the spaceship Nostromo. For this role she won the Saturn Award in 1980 and was nominated for the DVD Exclusive Award in 2004. She was nominated for the Saturn Award in 1988 for her role in the horror comedy The Witches of Eastwick (1987). In 1998 and 1999 she appeared in several episodes of the television series The X-Files , for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award in both years . In 2005 she won the Glitter Award for her role in the comedy Straight-Jacket (2004). She was also featured in the Scissor Sisters' music video for I don't feel like dancing .

Cartwright is married to director Richard Compton and has one child. Her sister is the actress Angela Cartwright .
