Resurrection (original title: Resurrection , subtitled Die unheimliche Wiederkehr on the broadcast in Austria ) is an American fantasy series about so-called revenants . It is based on the novel The Returned by Jason Mott and was developed by Aaron Zelman . The series was produced from 2013 to 2014 by ABC Studios in collaboration with Plan B Entertainment for the US broadcaster ABC . It consists of two seasons and 21 episodes. Although it has a similar concept to the French series The Returned , it is based on a different template and has no connection to it or the French film They Came Back from 2004. In the US, it was first broadcast on March 9, 2014 on ABC instead of.

action

Martin Bellamy, a US immigration agent , is tasked with repatriating an eight-year-old boy named Jacob. The boy showed up on a Chinese rice field far from the nearest major city, with no trace of how he got there . Martin picks him up from the airport and is supposed to take him to the adoption authorities. However, he decides to bring the boy back to his hometown, the small town of Arcadia in the US state of Missouri .

When the two arrive there, Jacob's parents Lucille and Henry - now in their sixties - tell that their boy drowned in a nearby river over 30 years ago. Jacobs' clues about the circumstances of his accident call the story told so far into question. So he wanted to save his aunt from the river and not the other way around. He also tells of a family friend who was at the scene of the accident.

production

There was already a bidding war between various production studios in the run-up to its publication for the rights to Jason Mott's debut novel The Returned . Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Plan B Entertainment were finally able to secure the rights and brought the project to ABC Studios , where Brillstein was under contract. Based on a script by Aaron Zelman , development of the series began in December 2012 at ABC , which commissioned a pilot episode a month later . Charles McDougall was hired to direct the pilot . The casting began in February 2013 with the signing of Matt Craven as Sheriff Fred Langston, followed by Devin Kelley . In March, Frances Fisher , Samaire Armstrong , Sam Hazeldine , Nicholas Gonzalez , Omar Epps , Kurtwood Smith , Landon Gimenez and Mark Hildreth got other leading roles. The filming of the pilot episode found within a week in March 2013 in Norcross ( Georgia instead).

In May 2013, ABC gave the series the green light for the production of a first season under the title Resurrection . When the start dates were announced, the series was given a start date in the so-called midseason. The filming of the remaining seven episodes of the first season took place from July to October 2013 again in Norcross and on the premises of the EUE / Screen Gems Studios in Lakewood Heights , a district of Atlanta .

The extension by a 13-part second season was announced in May 2014. ABC discontinued the series a year later.
