Candyman 3 - The Day of the Dead

Candyman 2 - The Blood Revenge is an American horror film from 1995. It is the sequel to Candyman's Curse from 1992. Tony Todd again played the main role of the monster with the hook . Another sequel followed four years later with Candyman 3 - The Day of the Dead .

action

The film begins with an MP reporting on the curse of Candyman, who was once tormented to death for a forbidden love. As in the first part, the name of the candyman has to be mentioned five times in order to call the restless spirit and thus awaken it to new deeds. The MP overpowers this hurdle in disbelief and is slit open by a hook in the men's room in a nearby restaurant . Ethan Tarrant is blamed for the atrocity for whispering death threats to the MP before that. Now the film comes to the main story.

Annie Tarrant is a middle school teacher in New Orleans . She teaches fine arts. Annie has a friend named Paul McCeever. On a day when the students were supposed to paint pictures, she discovers the picture of Candyman in one of her students. After a brief discussion about the legend, Annie calls the mirror five times in front of the mirror. After all, she sees the deceased in her dreams, involuntarily becoming an eyewitness to some atrocities, such as the murder of her husband. Eventually she finds out that the Candyman has chosen her to be his wife. He wants to kill Annie and take her with him to the afterlife, because she reminds him of his great love. With the destruction of a small dam on her river, she banishes the Candyman back to the mirror. At the end you see her daughter, who tries to pronounce Candyman's name in front of her mirror one night, but is stopped by her mother the fifth time.

Trivia

  • The film grossed just under $ 14 million in US cinemas.
  • The original movie poster was considered very controversial at the time, as the OJ Simpson trial was still very public at the time. It showed a black man sneaking up on a white woman.

Reviews

“Horror film set in the Carnival of New Orleans, which creates solid suspense, but overshoots the mark due to cruelty painted in detail. The film always gets involuntarily funny when it tries to stylize its dark title hero as an angel of revenge and a passion figure in one. "

“The serious shortcomings of this by no means politically motivated successor to the surprise hit from 1992 are the involuntarily funny and stiff-looking presence of Tony Todd in the title role and the unimaginatively staged butchering sequences. Kellie Rowan and Veronica Cartwright as their alcoholic mother, on the other hand, do their best to give substance to the worn material. "
