He wrote the screenplay for the science fiction thriller The Astronaut's Wife, starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron , which won the 1999 Catalonian International Film Festival in the "Best Picture" category. He was the producer of the film " Confessions of a Dangerous Mind ". He also wrote the sequel to Candyman, " Candyman 2 - The Blood Revenge ", and the film " The Maker " (1997). Ravich is the creator of the NBC television series " Life ". He was also an executive producer and scriptwriter on "Life".

He attended Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School, but graduated from the small Jewish day school Solomon Schecter before going to Haverford College, Pennsylvania, where he made several friends. He graduated with a degree in philosophy, studied with Richard J. Bernstein , Aryeh Kosman, and Paul Desjardins (Professor Desjardin's name and many other references to Haverford appear on NBC's " Life "). Perhaps most importantly, Rand was taken under the wing of Professor Bob Butman, who encouraged Rand's creative interests and helped him pursue a career as a screenwriter. Haverford was followed by Graduate School at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), where Rand quickly found an audience for his puns and carefully thought-out films and dramas.
