Candyman is a horror thriller by Nia DaCosta , which is scheduled to hit German cinemas on October 15, 2020 and US cinemas the following day. It is a sequel to Candyman's Curse by Bernard Rose from 1992.

The artist Anthony McCoy comes across the story of "Candyman", which he initially uses as inspiration in his pictures. Gradually, however, Anthony loses his mind.

It is a 1992 remake of Candyman's Curse by Bernard Rose, based on the short story The Forbidden by Clive Barker .

Directed by Nia DaCosta , who wrote the script together with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld . Rosenfeld and Peele also produced the film together with Ian Cooper . Originally it was not entirely clear whether Peele would also direct.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II took on the lead role from Anthony McCoys, Teyonah Parris plays his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright.

The film was shot in Chicago in the summer and fall of 2019. John Guleserian acted as cameraman .

The first trailer was presented at the end of February 2020. The film was originally scheduled to open on June 12, 2020 in the USA and the United Kingdom and will hit German cinemas on June 18, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , however, the US start date has been postponed to October 16, 2020. The cinema release in Germany should take place one day in advance.
