Andy Garcia (* 12. April 1956 as Andrés Arturo García Menéndez in Havana ) is a Cuban - American actor , film producer and director .
Life
Andrés Arturo García Menéndez was born in Cuba , the youngest of three children of a lawyer and an English teacher . He was part of a pair of Siamese twins . His undeveloped sibling was barely bigger than a tennis ball and was surgically removed. When he was five, his family fled the revolution in Cuba under Fidel Castro to the United States . The family moved to Miami where his father made a fortune in perfume wholesaling.
At the age of 22 García went to Los Angeles , where he joined a theater company after a few minor roles. In addition, he kept himself afloat with odd jobs, including as a furniture maker and waiter . In 1983 he made his debut as a film actor in the thriller The Murderous Paradise . He had his breakthrough in 1987 with Brian De Palma's crime film The Untouchables . He received an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination in 1990 for his performance as Vincent Mancini-Corleone in The Godfather III .
For his portrayal of the jazz musician Arturo Sandoval in The Jazz Connection , he was nominated in 2001 for both the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Mini-Series or TV Film and for the Satellite Award - TV / Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie .
He made his debut as a director in 1993 with the documentary Cachao… Like His Rhythm There Is No Other, about the life of the Cuban musician Israel “Cachao” López .
Andy García has been married to the Cuban exile Maria-Victoria Lorido-García since 1982. The marriage produced four children, including the actress Dominik García-Lorido (* 1983). García lives with his family in Toluca Lake , California and Key Biscayne , Florida .
