Theo James (* 16th December 1984 in Oxford , Oxfordshire as Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis ) is a British actor .

Life

Theo James was born in Oxford to Jane (née Martin) and Philip Taptiklis. His paternal grandfather was Greek . He is also of New Zealand , English and Scottish descent. He has two older brothers and two older sisters. James attended Aylesbury Grammar School and then earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Nottingham . He trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School.

In addition to acting, James was also the singer and guitarist for the band Shere Khan . On November 21, 2012, the band announced on their Facebook page that they would no longer perform. He has been married since 2018.

Career

He made his acting debut in 2010 in the television series A Passionate Woman . In the same year he starred as Turkish diplomat Kemal Pamuk in an episode lead role in Downton Abbey . His national breakthrough came with the lead role of Jed Harper in the mystery television series Bedlam . He also appeared in the films I See the Man of Your Dreams and Sex on the Beach . He achieved his first international success in early 2012 with the role of David in Underworld: Awakening . In 2013, he starred in the short-lived police series Golden Boy as Walter William Clark, Jr.

In 2014 he took on the male lead of Four, geb. Tobias Eaton in The Determination - Divergent , the film adaptation of the novel The Determination by Veronica Roth . He also played the same role in the two sequels Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016). In 2019 he starred as Sidney Parker in the television series Sanditon .

He has been a model at Hugo Boss since 2014 .
