Life

Gunter Stemmler completed his studies in history at the Leibniz Universität Hannover with a Magister Artium and was a student assistant with Brigide Schwarz and Otto Gerhard Oexle . From 1987 to 1992 Stemmler was a research assistant at the history didactic chair at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . He received his doctorate in 2001 from the Goethe University in Frankfurt with the thesis The Mayor's Chain of Office. Their history and their historical classification in Germany as a Dr. phil. (Doctoral supervisor: Lothar Gall , second reviewer: Johannes Fried ). In 2017 Gunter Stemmler received his doctorate with the thesis On the History of the Federal Republic of Germany in the anniversary year 1989. From 1994 to 2002 Stemmler was the personal advisor to three city council heads of the city of Frankfurt. In 2002 he became a consultant and deputy office manager of the mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth . In 2010, after a dispute, Petra Roth changed both her office manager Peter Heine and his deputy Gunter Stemmler. While he was retiring, he had to move to another position in the city administration. Stemmler caused a stir in 2013 when he sued the "deportation post" in the main office, special tasks department, "in the mini-office next to the ladies' toilet on the ground floor" in order to become head of the Museum of Applied Art . The Kassel Administrative Court came to the conclusion that Stemmler was entitled to a position with managerial tasks. The management of the Museum of Applied Art was not transferred to Gunter Stemmler, but in 2014 he was assigned the management of the coordination office for administrative reform.

Gunter Stemmler is the author of numerous publications. He researches and publishes on the history of Methodism , on television history, on communal and university honors of the modern age and on Nazi politicians in Frankfurt.
