The Manado flying fox or Sulawesi short-haired bat ( Rousettus bidens , syn .: Boneia bidens ) is a species in the genus of the cave bats ( Rousettus ). It forms the monotypical subgenus Boneia , which is sometimes recognized as an independent genus.

With a head-trunk length of about 138 mm, a tail length of about 25 mm and a forearm length of 94 to 104 mm, the species is one of the larger representatives of the genus. The weight is 150 to 194 g. The upper parts of the body are dark brown to red-brown in color, while the belly has a light brown color. In males, there is also a golden to dark brown mane on the shoulders and long hair on the larynx. The Manado flying fox differs from other cave flying foxes in different details of the skull structure.

The distribution area of this flying fox is Sulawesi , with the exception of the southern peninsula and smaller neighboring islands. The Manado fruit bat occurs in the lowlands and in low mountain ranges between 200 and 1060 meters above sea level. The species was found in forests, in bushes and in cultivated areas.

Very little is known about the way of life. The individuals rest in caves and are believed to be capable of echolocation , although they probably feed on nectar and pollen like their close relatives . Females captured in June and July were pregnant with one embryo .

The Manado flying fox is hunted in Sulawesi and sold as bushmeat . The size of the habitat is decreasing through forest clearing. The population in the Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park and in other protected areas is less exposed to these threats. The IUCN lists the species as endangered ( Vulnerable ).
