Me, Myself and I is a song by American R & B - singer Beyoncé Knowles . The piece is the third single from Knowles' solo debut album Dangerously in Love from 2003 and is about a stalker . The single reached number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and became Knowles' fourth top four single in the US . There is a remix version of the song by Panjabi MC .

Background and composition

In an interview with MTV News , Beyoncé said of the piece:

“… It's about a girl who's with the wrong guy who won't leave her alone. Women feel stupid and silly in such situations and feel ashamed because they know that he is not good for them but that they do not want to leave him. And in this song breaking up is celebrated ... "

Me, Myself and I is an R&B song with a changing tempo. It is written in D minor ; the tempo is essentially 84 bpm . The text structure follows the verse - refrain form. The song contains an intro and a bridge before the last chorus.

Publication and reception

Me, Myself and I was released as the third single by Dangerously in Love (after the release of Crazy in Love and Baby Boy ). The single was released on October 21, 2003 in the US as Me, Myself and I / Krazy in Luv . On December 16, 2003, she was as a CD - Single released in the US. In January 2004 it was released in the UK and the rest of Europe with a live version of Naughty Girl and Work it Out .

Me, Myself and I could not build on the success of the previous singles and number one hits Crazy in Love and Baby Boy . On November 16, 2003, the song debuted at number 78 on the US Billboard Hot 100 , and in the same week Baby Boy was still at number 1. Fourteen weeks after its debut on the Hot 100, the single reached number 4 in for two weeks the Billboard Hot 100. Me, Myself and I stayed on the Hot 100 for a total of 24 weeks. On January 30, 2009, the single was awarded gold by the Recording Industry Association of America .

Worldwide the single was only a mediocre success, reaching the top 10 in some countries. It reached number eleven in Australia and the UK and the top 20 in New Zealand and the Netherlands .

Music video

In the music video, Beyoncé is looking for her boyfriend who is spying on and watching her. Then she throws away the things that remind her of him.

The music video was nominated for Best R&B Video at the MTV Video Music Awards 2004 , but lost to Alicia Keys , who won the award with the video for If I Ain't Got You .
