Drunk in Love is a song by American R & B - singer Beyoncé Knowles . The song was written by Knowles, Jay-Z , Timbaland , Andre Eric Proctor, Rasool Diaz, Boots, Brian Soko and Noel Fisher and released on December 17, 2013 as the second single from the Beyoncé album. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 on the UK singles chart .

The music is characterized by a slow rhythm with a distinctive, stumbling sub-bass melody. In the middle part there is a passage twice as fast with a rap by Jay-Z. The text begins with the words I've been drinking and is thus immersed in a supposed alcohol intoxication, which in the end turns out to be a sexual intoxication: I've been drinking watermelon . At its core, the song is about a night of love and contains numerous, mostly metaphorical, sexual allusions, such as: Foreplay in the Foyer or Beat the box up like Mike in '97 I bite .

reception

Drunk in Love received mostly positive reviews. Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield described the song as the best on the album. Pitchwork Media magazine placed the song at number 44 on its list of the 200 best songs of the decade.

The song won two awards at the 2015 Grammy Awards : Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance.

Commercial win

To date, 1.6 million copies of the song have been sold in the United States. In Great Britain the song reached number 9 on the charts and was awarded gold.
