Hold Up is a song by the American R&B singer Beyoncé Knowles . It was released as a download on August 16, 2016 as a single from their sixth album Lemonade .

The song was written and produced by Beyoncé, Diplo , Ezra Koenig, Emile Haynie, Josh Tillman, MNEK and Sean "Melo-X" Rhoden. It contains samples of Maps song Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Soulja Boy's work Turn My Swag On . Hold Up was part of the visual film Lemonade by Beyoncé and was released as the third single. In the music video, Knowles rioted in a town center, destroying cars and shop windows with a baseball, which she affectionately calls Hot Sauce . She plays a strong and confident woman who shows her husband how much she loves him and he would be worthless without her. She sings in the lyrics that she loves him more than anyone else. The video was filmed by Jonas Åkerlund . The song was nominated in several categories at the American MTV Music Awards, including Best Video . It was nominated for Best Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards . The video has so far had more than 125 million views on YouTube and is one of the most successful of 2016. Numerous celebrities praised the piece, including the presenter Ellen DeGeneres , who re-enacted the video.

After the release, the song placed in numerous charts. In Denmark, Greece, Holland, New Zealand and Norway it was possible to reach number 5 in the charts through downloads alone.
