Origin and career

Between the individual songs, Beyoncé quotes poems by the poet Warsan Shire from her debut volume Teaching my mother how to give birth . These poems form the backbone of the album , according to The New York Times . The first song to be released by Knowles Formation ; she sang this together with Chris Martin and Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl 2016. Beyoncé released the hymn Sorry as the follow-up single . This song made headlines because she addresses an alleged affair of her husband Jay-Z in the song . Other publications include Hold Up , Daddy Lessons , Freedom with rapper Kendrick Lamar and All Night . The album was also released in a limited edition book called How to make Lemonade .

Lemonade has sold 2,500,000 units to date and achieved platinum status in many countries around the world. Parallel to the release of the album, Knowles undertook a major world tour, the Formation World Tour , which brought in 250 million US dollars. Lemonade received many awards, including the BET Award for Album of the Year , the Billboard Music Award for Best R&B Album of the Year , the Soul Train Award for Album of the Year , the NAACP Image Award for Best Album of the Year, and a Grammy Award for best contemporary album.

The Musikexpress thinks the album is "a film full of disturbing visual music". In him, "the intimate is iconic and the personal is political". The Süddeutsche emphasizes the “merging of past and present”. Lemonade is a political statement, Beyoncé is “trying to come to terms with her own past”. She had "not only succeeded in making a varied and, despite historical ramifications, really refreshing pop record", but "above all a strong emancipatory act" that "one does not have to check for allusions to the state of marriage with Jay-Z". Die Zeit writes that lemonade is an “audio-visual work of art about the power of reconciliation”. According to the world , Beyoncés' album is "the greatest work to date, far more than a song collection, namely a classic concept album". It is "about racism, feminism and the question of how things are going to the marriage of Jay-Z and Beyoncé".
