Thulani Maseko

Thulani Maseko Rudolf is a human right - lawyer from Swaziland and co-founder of the section of the Lawyers for Human Rights in Swaziland. In 2011 he received the Vera Chirwa Prize for his services to human rights.

Life

Thulano Maseko comes from Luhleko, a town near Bhunya in the Manzini region .

On March 18, 2014, Thulani was convicted and imprisoned along with journalist Bheki Makhubu for disregarding the court after criticizing the country's judicial system in newspaper articles.

In April 2014, the General Secretary of the People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) Mlungisi Makhanya was arrested for wearing a t-shirt that the party used to protest against the imprisonment of activists Maseko and Makhubu.

In August 2014, Maseko wrote to US President Barack Obama asking him to intervene before the United States – Africa Leaders Summit 2014. In March 2015, he was taken into solitary confinement.

Maseko was released from prison on July 30, 2015. He had been recognized by Amnesty International as a Prisoner of Conscience.

Thulani has been married to Tanele Maseko since 2008.
