Life Is But a Dream is an autobiographical film about the singer Beyoncé Knowles , which was shown once in Germany on June 10, 2013 in all UCI and Cinemaxx cinemas. The film includes a combination of professional camera recordings and personal videos from Knowles.

A mix of face-to-face interviews, home videos, webcam recordings, and stage appearances, the film deals with Knowle's marriage to Jay-Z, her miscarriage, the pregnancy and birth of her daughter Blue Ivy, and her professional separation from her father and manager Matthew Knowles.

In 2005, Knowles hired a visual director to film her life, and for the past two years she has been using her laptop camera for private recordings.
The film premiered in the United States on February 16, 2013 on HBO and had the highest ratings for HBO since 2004. It had not previously shown in theaters. It was also televised directly in the UK , premiering on BBC One on March 28, 2013 . In Australia, however, the film was shown in theaters there on May 8, 2013. In Germany, the film was shown in all UCI and Cinemaxx cinemas on June 10, 2013 as the original English-language edition with German subtitles.
On Knowle's current world tour, The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour , she shows, among other things, excerpts from this film.

The website Metacritic , which among other things rates films according to a secret formula based on various weighted ratings from relevant media, gave the film 56 out of 100 possible points, based on 14 ratings. The Entertainment Weekly criticized that the film "seems more like a skilful staging" . "The fact that Beyonce not only plays the leading role, but also directs and produced the film himself, is evident in the film," the magazine continues.
