Antoine Bethea Akeem (* 27. July 1984 in Savannah , Georgia ) is an American American football player in the National Football League (NFL). He plays for the New York Giants as safety . With the Indianapolis Colts he won the Super Bowl XLI .

college

Bethea was also a successful basketball player in high school but eventually chose football. He attended Howard University and played college football for their team, the bison .

NFL

Indianapolis Colts

When NFL Draft 2006, he was in the sixth round as the 206th overall by the Indianapolis Colts selected and in his rookie season review regularly the same as starting - Safety used, including in Super Bowl XLI , which he won with his team.

In his second season he was appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time .

In 2009 he was able to reach the Super Bowl again with the Colts , where they had to admit defeat to the New Orleans Saints . Bethea herself was called to the Pro Bowl for the second time.

San Francisco 49ers

On March 11, 2014, Bethea signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers . He also performed well for his new team, not only scored his first touchdown , but was also called up to the Pro Bowl again.

In October 2015 he suffered a muscle injury in the 7th game and was out for the rest of the season.

Arizona Cardinals

In March 2017 he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals for three years. In 2018, Bethea started all 16 games and achieved the team's best with 133 tackles. However, following the signing of DJ Swearinger at the end of the season and the decision to make Budda Baker full-time safety again, Bethea was no longer needed and the Cardinals fired him on March 8, 2019.

New York Giants

Shortly after his release, the New York Giants signed Bethea for two years. He also showed his usual good performance in the new environment. He achieved 110 tackles and one interception in the 2019 season.
