Shaquil Barrett (* 17th November 1992 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American American football poker players on the position of Outside linebackers . He played college football for the University of Nebraska Omaha and Colorado State University . He is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League (NFL) under contract. From 2014 to 2018 he played for the Denver Broncos , with whom he won the Super Bowl 50 .

college

Barrett played from 2010 college football for the University of Nebraska Omaha in Division II, which, however, discontinued its football program in 2011. As a result, Barrett moved to Colorado State University , the only Division I college that showed interest in Barrett. There he played from 2011 to 2013. In his senior year of college, Barrett was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Mountain West Conference .

NFL

Barrett was not selected in the 2014 NFL Draft , after which the Denver Broncos signed him as a free agent. Before the start of the season, Barrett was dismissed as part of the squad reduction to 53 players and subsequently added to the Practice Squad . After a year in the Practice Squad, he made it into the 53-man squad in the 2015 season , after leading his team in these statistics with four sacks in the preseason . In his first NFL season, Barrett recorded 50 tackles , 5.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles . At the end of the season he reached Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos , which they won with 24:10 against the Carolina Panthers . In this game, Barrett came as the third outside linebacker behind Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware and had to temporarily leave the field because of a suspected concussion in the third quarter. Before that, he managed a tackle.

In the following two years Barrett developed into an established player in defense of the Broncos, in 2017 he played about 63% of all defensive plays. He was also used in the special teams .

After the 2018 season, the Broncos did not renew his contract. On March 15, 2019, Barrett signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

In the 20:14 win of the Buccaneers over division rivals Carolina Panthers , Barrett was able to sack the opposing quarterback three times, for which he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week . In the following game against the New York Giants , which the Buccaneers narrowly lost, Barrett was able to achieve four sacks and force two fumbles. With his four sacks in one game, he equaled the Buccaneers franchise record. He is also the second player in the NFL after Mark Gastineau (1984) to get eight sacks in the first three games.

On December 17, 2019, Barrett was first nominated for the Pro Bowl . Barrett led the league in 2019 with 19.5 sacks and received the Deacon Jones Award .
