Stevonne Latrall "Steve" Smith Sr. (* 12. May 1979 in Lynwood , California ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of wide receiver . He played for the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). Smith was elected to the Pro Bowl five times in his career .

Carolina Panthers
In 2001, Smith was drafted in the third round as the 74th player in the NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers . In his first season he was mainly used as a kick and punt return turner, and scored the fourth most yards in the league. For this performance he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time as a rookie .
From the 2002 season he was used as a wide receiver in the initial formation. In 2003 he was instrumental in the Panthers' entry into Super Bowl XXXVIII , which they lost to the New England Patriots by just 32:29 .
In the first game of the 2004 season against the Green Bay Packers , Smith broke his leg and missed the rest of the game. In 2005 he came back from a serious injury and had the most yards (1563), captured passes (103) and touchdowns of all wide receivers that season. The Carolina Panthers made it to the NFC Championship Game , where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks . Steve Smith was re-elected to the Pro Bowl and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award along with Tedy Bruschi from the New England Patriots . Despite some injuries, he also achieved good statistics in 2006 and was elected to the Pro Bowl for the third time.
Baltimore Ravens
For the 2014 season, Smith moved to the Baltimore Ravens and signed a 3-year contract.
In summer 2015 he announced that he wanted to end his career after the new season.
In the eighth game of the 2015 season, Steve Smith cracked the 13,932-yard mark, making him tenth place in NFL history at receiving yards. In the same game he seriously injured his Achilles tendon, which meant the end of the season and a possible early career end. On December 30, 2015, he announced that he would play another season of football.
On the penultimate day of the 2016 season, Smith announced that he would end his career at the end of the current season. The main reason he named was his wife and children.
