Giorgio Tavecchio (born July 16, 1990 in Milan , Italy ) is an Italian American football player on the position of the kicker .
Early years
Tavecchio went to high school in Moraga , California . He later attended the University of California at Berkeley .
NFL
San Francisco 49ers
After not being selected in the 2012 NFL Draft , he signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers . Here he signed a three-year contract.
Green Bay Packers
On March 26, 2013 Tavecchio signed a three-year contract with the Green Bay Packers . He was released on August 26, 2013.
Detroit Lions
On January 1, 2014, Tavecchio signed a contract with the Detroit Lions. He was released on August 25, 2014.
Oakland Raiders
After initially receiving a contract with the Oakland Raiders on August 27, 2014 , he was released just three days later. On February 23, 2015, he signed again with the Raiders, but was released on September 5. On January 5, 2016, Tavecchio signed a two-year contract with the Raiders. On August 29, however, the contract was terminated. On April 19, 2017 he was added to the team again, after the roster cuts he received a place in the Raiders Practice Squad . On September 9, 2017, he was added to the active squad after his actual placekicker Sebastian Janikowski was injured.
He played his first NFL game on September 10, 2017 against the Tennessee Titans , where he scored all four field goals and two extra points. With this achievement, he was voted NFL Special Teams Player of the Week . He finished the season with 33 of 34 converted extra points and 16 of 21 converted field goals.
On August 3, 2018, Mike Nugent signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders, whereupon Tavecchio was fired.
Atlanta Falcons
On August 27, 2018, Tavecchio signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons. He was released on September 1, 2018. He was re-signed on October 10, 2018 after Matt Bryant was injured. In his first game for the Falcons, he scored two of two extra points and all three field goals, including a 56- yard field goal. After this achievement, he was named NFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in his career . Although Bryant recovered from his injury during the season and was back with the Falcons as a kicker on the field, Tavecchio was kept in the squad. Nevertheless, Tavecchio was released on August 31, 2019.
