Balys Vitkus
Balys Vitkus (born March 1, 1898 in Staškūniškis , Wolost Daugailiai , now Rajongemeinde Utena ; † October 7, 1988 in Chicago , USA) was a Lithuanian agronomist, rector of the Lietuvos žemės ūkio universitetas and professor .
Life
From 1912 he was a member of the Catholic organization Ateitininkai . In 1916 Vitkus graduated from high school in St. Petersburg and from 1916 to 1917 studied at the Agricultural Academy in Moscow . From 1922 to 1925 he graduated from the University of Wroclaw and became an agronomist. From 1921 to 1922 he worked as a teacher at the Progymnasium in Utena . From 1925 he worked and from 1928 he taught as a lecturer at the Agricultural Academy in Dotnuva . From 1941 to 1944 he headed this university as rector. In 1944 he fled to Austria . In 1948 he emigrated to the USA. From 1955 he was a member of Vyriausiasis Lietuvos išlaisvinimo komitetas .
