Aspermont is a city and seat of the county seat of Stonewall County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is located in central northwest Texas, about 380 km west of Dallas , where Highway 380 and Highway 83, as well as highways 610, 2211 and 1263 meet, and has a total area of ​​5.4 km 2 with no significant water surface.

history

The settlement was founded in 1889 by AL Rhomberg, who gave the settlement its name (Aspermont means (Latin) 'rough mountain') and made the land available. Whether Rhomberg has anything to do with the owners of the Neu-Aspermont ruins in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland is uncertain, but it is entirely possible.

The first post office was opened in the founding year. In 1898, 250 people lived here and the small town was elected the district capital. In 1910 there were 600 people. By 1920 the population had fallen to 436 people. Thanks to the oil discovery, the population rose to 1,041 by 1940.
