from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ables Springs is a settlement in northeast Kaufman County in the US state of Texas . It is located about 10 miles northeast of Terrell on Farm Road 429.

history

The history of the place begins in 1853 with the married couple James W. Ables and Eliza Godfrey Ables. They settled here on land given to Ables' father Ezekiel from the State of Texas in 1838, and began farming pastures in the midst of a natural spring region.

The couple were avowed members of the Methodist Church . In 1878 they transferred about three and a half acres of their land to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and gave it the right to use it for any purpose. The church community built a house of worship, a tabernacle and a public school there. Part of the land was used to build a cemetery.

In the mid-1980s, a Baptist congregation and a Church of Christ congregation settled in Ables Springs. The formerly independent school is now part of the Terrell school network.
