Pedernales Falls State Park ( pronunciation : [ ˌpɜrdənælɪs ]) is an approximately 21.1 km² large State Park in Blanco County ( Texas ) west of Austin .
In 1970, the state bought the Circle Bar Ranch property from a private owner and in 1971 it was opened to the public as a state park. The park extends along the banks of the Pedernales River .
