The Crockett County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county government is based in Ozona .
geography
The county is located west of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of 7,271 square kilometers with no significant body of water. The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Upton County , Reagan County , Irion County , Schleicher County , Sutton County , Val Verde County , Terrell County , Pecos County, and Crane Counties .
history
Crockett County was formed from parts of Bexar County on January 22, 1875 , and the administrative organization was completed on July 14, 1891. It is named after David Crockett , a legendary border guard and MP in the United States House of Representatives , killed in the Battle of the Alamo .
Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 23, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Crockett County had 4,099 people in 1,524 households and 1,114 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.34 percent white, 0.68 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 19.71 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.39 percent were descended from two or more races. 54.70 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,524 households, 36.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.3 percent were single mothers and 26.9 percent were non-families. 24.7 percent were single households and 11.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.19 people.
28.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.1 percent between 18 and 24, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44, 24.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males and for every 100 females aged 18 or over there were 97.6 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,355 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,653. Males had a median income of $ 29,925 versus $ 14,695 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,414. 14.9 percent of families and 19.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
