Benbrook is a city in Tarrant County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .

geography

The city is located at the junction of Interstate 20 with US Highway 377 , northeast of the geographic center of Texas, in the southwest corner of Tarrant County, and has a total area of ​​31.2 km², of which 1.6 km² is water. The distance to Dallas in the east is approximately 80 km and to Fort Worth in the northeast it is approximately 16 km.

history

The city was founded in 1857 mainly by settlers from Tennessee and was first called Miranda. 1876 moved Texas and Pacific Railway their tracks in the area and the city was renamed in Benbrook, after coming out Indiana originating James M. Benbrook , who played an important role in connecting the city to the rail network. The first post office opened in 1880 and in 1905 the local school had one teacher and 64 students. In the mid- 1920s , when the first population statistics were reported, the population was only 20. It was not until the late 1940s that the population rose to 617. Due to its proximity to the rapidly growing Fort Worth, the population rose to 3,300 in 1965, to 9,900 in 1976 and 19,564 in 1990.

Demographic data

According to the 2000 census, 20,208 people in 8,599 households and 5,778 families lived here. The population density was 681 inhabitants per km². The racial the population was composed of 88.30% White, 4.42% African American, 0.50% Native American, 2.14% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 2.71% other ethnic groups; about 1.87% were descended from two or more races. 6.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
