Alfred Sauter (born August 3, 1950 in Oxenbronn , city of Ichenhausen , district of Günzburg ) is a German politician ( CSU ).

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Günzburg in 1969, he studied law and political science in Tübingen , Geneva and Munich . Since 1983 Sauter has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV . He was a scholarship holder of the Institute for the Promotion of the Gifted of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . As before between 1979 and 1988, Sauter has been practicing as a lawyer in Munich since 1999 . Sauter is a Roman Catholic .

Political party

From 1979 to 1987 Sauter was state chairman of the Junge Union Bayern . Since 1980 he has been a member of the CSU district executive in Swabia , was its treasurer from 1989 to 2003 and from 2003 deputy district chairman. From 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the CSU party executive. Since 1996 he has been the district chairman of the CSU district association Günzburg and since 1992 chairman of the federal constituency conference of the federal constituency of Neu-Ulm . Since 2014 Sauter has been a member of the CSU Presidium and the CSU Party Executive Committee as well as chairman of the CSU Finance Committee.

Sauter was a member of the German Bundestag (MdB) from 1980 to 1988 and has been a member of the Bavarian state parliament since 1990 . He represents the district of Günzburg ( constituency of Swabia ).

Public offices

From 1988 to 1990 he was State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Federal and European Affairs , from 1990 to 1993 in the same function in the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice and from 1993 to 1998 in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior responsible for the State Building Administration ( Supreme Building Authority ). From October 1998 to September 1999 he was Bavarian State Minister of Justice .

On September 4, 1999, Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber telephoned him to inform him that he had been released because he was held responsible for the LWS affair. The semi-state housing association LWS had accumulated a loss of 367 million marks at this time; During his time as State Secretary in the Interior Ministry, Sauter was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the LWS. Since dismissal from the state government requires the approval of the state parliament, Sauter initially remained a member of the state government as a minister with no portfolio. Sauter described Stoiber's allegations as "sheep shit" and publicly settled accounts with him in the state parliament a week later. Shortly before the state parliament's vote on his dismissal, Sauter announced his resignation as minister on September 13, 1999.

Sauter is currently a member of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Relations in the Bavarian State Parliament.
