Manfred Weiß (politician)

Manfred Ottmar Hans Weiß (born January 23, 1944 in Roth ; † March 11, 2017 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CSU ). From 1978 to 2013 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament and from 1999 to 2003 Bavarian Minister of Justice . From 2013 until his death he was a non-professional judge at the Bavarian Constitutional Court .

Life and work

From 1954 to 1963 he attended the humanistic grammar school in Schwabach . After high school, he graduated to 1965 training as a reserve officer in the armed forces (excreted as Lt. d. R. , last Colonel d. R. of Gebirgsjägertruppe ).

From 1965 to 1969 he studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in Erlangen (first state examination in law, 1970/72 legal trainee. Second state examination, doctorate in law)

From 1973 to 1978 he was a judge at the Nuremberg-Fürth Regional Court .

After the death of his first wife, Weiß remarried and had two children from his first marriage.

White had been a member of the CSU since 1968. In 1970 he was elected district chairman of the Junge Union , in 1972 he was elected to the Roth city ​​council and the district council of the Roth district. From 1976 to 2009 Weiß was CSU district chairman and from 1989 to 2009 deputy CSU district chairman. From 1991 to 1995 he was the state chairman of the CSU's Defense and Security Working Group (WPA).

In 1978, Weiß was elected to the Bavarian State Parliament as a constituency representative for the constituency of Roth ( constituency of Middle Franconia ). There he was chairman of the investigative committees “ Wienerwald ” (11th  WP ), “ Schalck-Golodkowski ” (12th WP) and “ Plutonium ” (13th WP). In 1988/99 and 2003/13, Weiß was chairman of the G10 commission of the Bavarian state parliament. From 1986 to 1999 he was a member of the board of the CSU parliamentary group and from 1993 to 1999 deputy chairman of the parliamentary group. In 1985, Weiß became chairman of his parliamentary group's military policy working group.

From September 13, 1999 to October 14, 2003, Weiß was Alfred Sauter's Minister of State for Justice in the Stoiber III cabinet . During his tenure, u. a. of animal welfare (item 141) in the state constitution added. From 1993 to 1999 and from 2008 to 2013, Weiß was chairman of the parliamentary control body and member of the committee for local affairs and internal security .

In October 2013, Weiß left the state parliament. Volker Bauer (also CSU) was elected as his successor as a member of the Roth constituency on September 14, 2013 .

In 2004, Weiß was the elector of his party in the federal presidential election when Horst Köhler was elected. In 2009 he was also the elector for the election of the German Federal President , when Horst Köhler was confirmed in office.

He was a member of the district council until his death. His successor was to be the former Mayor of Heideck , Ottmar Brunner, who rejected the election on March 27, 2017. Daniela von Schlenk-Barnsdorf followed as district councilor and was sworn in on July 25, 2017.
