Port St. Lucie is a city in St. Lucie County in the US state of Florida with 185,123 inhabitants (as of 2016). It is the largest city in the Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area .

geography

Port St. Lucie is located at the confluence of the St. Lucie River with the Indian River , which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway , in the immediate vicinity of the Atlantic coast . The city is about 10 km south of Fort Pierce and about 70 km north of West Palm Beach .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 164,603 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 70,877 households. The population density was 841.5 inhabitants / km². 74.3% of the population identified themselves as white , 16.3% as African American , 0.4% as Native American and 2.0% as Asian Americans . 4.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.0% to several ethnic groups. 18.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 35.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.0% of all households. 73.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.69 people and the average family size was 3.08 people.
