Fort Pierce South is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Lucie County in the US state of Florida with 5062 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Fort Pierce South borders the city of Fort Pierce to the north and is approximately 80 km north of West Palm Beach . Interstate 95 , US Highway 1 and Florida State Road 70 cross or touch the CDP .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5062 inhabitants were distributed over 2321 households. The population density was 432.6 inh / km². 65.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 15.9% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 14.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.0% to several ethnic groups. 31.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 38.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 29.0% of all households. 68.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.89 people and the average family size was 3.40 people.

30.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 36 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 31,734, with 13.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 82.60% of the population, 16.07% spoke Spanish and 1.33% had another mother tongue.
