Hutchinson Island South is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Lucie County in the US state of Florida with 5201 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Hutchinson Island South is located on the barrier island of Hutchinson Island between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of Florida. The CDP borders directly on the city of Port St. Lucie to the west and is located about 10 km southeast of Fort Pierce and about 90 km north of West Palm Beach . The CDP is traversed by Florida State Road A1A .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 5201 inhabitants were distributed among 7582 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 444.5 inh / km². 98.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.2% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 0.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.4% to several ethnic groups. 2.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 76.8% of all households lived in 2.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 55.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.65 people and the average family size was 2.08 people.
