Fort Pierce North is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Lucie County in the US state of Florida with 6,474 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Fort Pierce North borders the city of Fort Pierce in the south and is approximately 90 km north of West Palm Beach . The CDP is crossed by US Highway 1 ( SR A1A ) and Florida State Road 615 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,474 inhabitants were distributed over 2,984 households. The population density was 558.1 inh / km². 21.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 70.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.1% as Asian Americans . 5.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 11.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 33.9% of all households lived in 35.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 70.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.85 people and the average family size was 3.36 people.

29.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 48.4% of the population were male and 51.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 26,235, with 34.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.26% of the population, 5.29% spoke Spanish and 1.45% had another mother tongue.
