Indian River Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Lucie County in the US state of Florida with 6220 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Indian River Estates is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and is directly adjacent to the towns of Fort Pierce (north) and Port St. Lucie (south). The CDP is located about 90 km north of West Palm Beach and is affected by US Highway 1 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,220 inhabitants were distributed over 3,121 households. The population density was 435 inh / km². 92.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 3.1% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 6.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 43.3% of all households lived in 22.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 67.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.74 people.

18.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 17.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 34.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 50 years. 48.5% of the population were male and 51.5% were female.

The median annual income was $ 42,572, with 8.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 93.14% of the population, 5.21% spoke Spanish and 1.65% had another mother tongue.
