Tom Sullivan (singer)

Tom Sullivan (born March 27, 1947 in West Roxbury , Massachusetts ) is an American singer, author, athlete and entertainer.

Life

Tom Sullivan was born prematurely and first had to be cared for in an incubator . Due to a mistake in the oxygen supply, he became blind, but survived without further damage. He was educated at the Perkins Institute for the Blind, Providence College, and Harvard. As a child he learned to play the piano, later he became a singer, composer and entertainer.

In 1969 he married Patricia M. Steffen; the marriage resulted in two children.

In 1975 his autobiographical work If You Could See What I Hear came out, which became a bestseller . In 1982 the book was filmed with Marc Singer in the lead role; Sullivan wrote much of the score for the film. Other books he wrote include Common Sense , You Are Special, and The Leading Lady. Dinah's Story , the story of his guide dog . This book also became a bestseller. This was followed by Special Parent, Special Child , That Nelson and Seeing Lessons . Adventures in Darkness appeared in a German translation with the title The summer when my life began . Sullivan also wrote Together , Alive Day, and A Holy Spirit .

Sullivan worked for Good Morning America and has appeared in several television series and films including Designing Women , Highway to Heaven , Fame , Knight Rider , M * A * S * H, and Mork & Mindy . He has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and is the only living recipient of the Helen Keller Lifetime Achievement Award .
