Mosiula Mea'alofa "Lofa" Tatupu (born November 15, 1982 in San Diego , California ) is an American American football coach and former player. He played six seasons as linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He was most recently the assistant coach for the linebackers at the Seattle Seahawks .

Player career

Seattle Seahawks

Tatupu was selected as the 45th player in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks . In his first season he developed into one of the best defensive players in the league and was elected to the Pro Bowl . He was elected to the Pro Bowl in his first three years and put the most tackles of the Seahawks. In 2007 the Associated Press named Tatupu an All-Pro .

On March 21, 2008, the Seahawks extended Tatupu's contract for a further six years. In 2008 Tatupu injured himself, which caused his performance to decline. On October 19, 2009, Tatupu injured his left pectoral muscle in the game against the Arizona Cardinals when he collided with teammate Deon Grant , which ended his season. Tatupu was fired on July 31, 2011 after failing to agree on a contract reorganization with the Seattle Seahawks.

Atlanta Falcons

On March 10, 2012, Tatupu signed up for two years with the Atlanta Falcons . On July 24, 2012, Tatupu injured his pectoralis major muscle . The Falcons released him a day later.

Coaching career

On February 9, 2015, the Seahawks announced that they had hired Tatupu as an assistant trainer for the linebackers. After two seasons, he voluntarily gave up his post to spend more time with his family.
