Championship after 1969
From 1967 to 1970, the AFL master played another final against the champion of the competitive league National Football League , which was then called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game . In 1970 the NFL and AFL merged, and today's National Football Conference and American Football Conference were created , the champions of which continue to contest the " Super Bowl " to this day . The four final games were retrospectively named " Super Bowl I ", " Super Bowl II ", " Super Bowl III " and " Super Bowl IV ".
