Nelson Street

One stop on the Mississippi Blues Trail , designated by the Mississippi Blues Commission , is Nelson Street in Greenville. The Second Whispers Restaurant in the Nelson Street belonged to the Chitlin 'circuit in the early days of blues and recalls the importance of this place in the history of the blues in Mississippi.

Nelson Street was a historically significant street in the 1940s and 1950s, with a lively scene of clubs and music venues playing delta blues , big band jump blues, and jazz. Record companies were constantly looking for new talent here. It was comparable to Beale Street in Memphis in the 1900s.
