Hermann Baden
Hermann Baden (born July 18, 1883 in Danzig ; † May 30, 1962 in Halle (Saale) ) was President of the Association of Jewish Communities in the GDR .
Life
After attending primary school, Baden completed a commercial training in Halle (Saale). During the Nazi era he was a forced laborer and a prisoner in the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1944/1945 .
After the war he returned to Halle (Saale) and in June 1946 became chairman of the Jewish community within the Relief Organization of the Province of Saxony . From 1946 to 1962 Baden was chairman of the Jewish community in Halle (Saale) and from 1953 to 1961, as the successor to Julius Meyer, who had fled, chairman or president of the Association of Jewish Communities in the GDR.
