Hector Tosar
Héctor Alberto Tosar Errecart (born July 18, 1923 in Montevideo ; † January 11 or January 17, 2002 there ) was a Uruguayan composer, conductor and pianist.
Tosar studied piano with Guillermo Kolischer , composition and instrumentation with Lamberto Baldi and harmony with T. Mujica. In 1946 he went to the USA on a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation, where he studied composition with Aaron Copland , Arthur Honegger and Darius Milhaud and studied orchestral conducting with Serge Koussevitzky . From 1948 to 1950 he continued his studies with Honegger and Milhaud and the conductors Eugene Bigot and Jean Fournet in Paris.
As a pianist, Tosar has performed throughout Latin America and the United States. In 1966 he went on a concert tour through India and Japan at the invitation of UNESCO . He taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música Uruguaya and after the abolition of democratic rights in Uruguay at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico , the Instituto Venezolano de Música in Caracas and the University of Indiana .
After the end of the military dictatorship in Uruguay in 1985, he became artistic director of the Servicio Oficial de Difusión Radiotelevisión y Espectáculos ( SODRE ), professor and director of the Conservatorio Universitario de Música and director of the Núcleo de Música Nueva , the Sociedad Uruguaya de Música de Música of the Contemporudánesea and Musicales del Uruguay . In 1992 he was recognized by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education for his life's work.
To Tosars pupils included Juan José Iturriberry , Daniel Viglietti , Conrado Silva , Ariel Martínez , Miguel Marozzi , Carlos da Silveira , Jorge Lazaroff , Eduardo Fernández , Elbio Rodríguez Barilari , Ulises Ferretti , Fernando Condon , Daniel Maggiolo , Álvaro Méndez , Álvaro Carlevaro , Felipe Silveira , Jorge Camiruaga , Luis Jure and Fernando Ulivi .
