Lamberto Baldi

Lamberto Baldi (* 1895 in Orvieto , † 1979 in Montevideo ) was an Italian conductor and composer .

Life

Baldi received his musical training in Orvieto and then studied with Ildebrando Pizzetti in Florence . After working in various European countries, he emigrated to South America in 1926. Until 1931 he was director of the Sociedad de Conciertos Sinfónicos of San Pablo , then he worked until 1942 (and again 1951–1953) as director of the Orquesta Sinfónica del SODRE .

He then conducted at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and was director of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra from 1947 to 1949. 1962–1963 he organized the chamber orchestra of the Fundación Caloustre Gulbenkian in Lisbon .

Baldi mainly performed the works of contemporary composers such as Claude Debussy , Paul Hindemith , Arthur Honegger , Igor Stravinsky , Eduardo Fabini and Héctor Tosar . He orchestrated the opera Euridice by Jacopo Peri , which, after its premiere in Montevideo in 1949, had worldwide success.

Baldi also worked as a composition teacher, whose students included Héctor Tosar and Mozart Camargo Guarnieri , and as a composer. His narrow oeuvre includes two operas as well as symphonic and choral works.
