Eduardo Fabini

Eduardo Félix Fabini (born May 18, 1882 in Solís de Mataojo , † May 17, 1950 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan composer and violinist.

Fabini learned to play the accordion and harmonium as a child before studying with Romeo Masi , Virgilio Scarabelli , Miguel Ferroni and Ítalo Casella at the La Lira Conservatory in Montevideo . From 1899 he was a student of César Thomson and Augusto de Boeck at the Conservatory in Brussels , where he received the first prize in the violin category in 1902. In 1903 he returned to Uruguay and performed as a soloist at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo.

After another trip to Europe, Fabini was one of the founders of the Conservatorio Musical del Uruguay in 1907 and co-founder of the Asociación de Música de Cámara in 1913 . With the premiere of his symphonic poem Campo in 1922 at the Teatro Albéniz in Montevideo, he became known as an important composer. The work was soon performed in Buenos Aires (with the Vienna Philharmonic under Richard Strauss ), New York, Washington, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Berlin, Moscow, Valencia, Rio de Janeiro and in Vienna. It was recorded as the first piece by a Latin American composer in 1927.

In 1927 Fabini became cultural attaché at the Uruguayan embassy in the USA. In 1943 he became director of the Conservatorio Nacional de Música of Uruguay.
