Francis Michael Forde or Frank Forde for short (born July 18, 1890 in Mitchell , Queensland , † January 28, 1983 in Brisbane , Queensland, Australia ) was an Australian politician and from July 6, 1945 to July 13, 1945 for seven days of transition - Prime Minister of Australia.

Forde was the child of Irish immigrants. He attended Christian Brothers College in Toowoomba . After his training he worked there as a teacher, later as a postmaster and telegraph operator. In addition, he trained to become an electrical engineer. He joined the local ALP (Australian Labor Party) in Rockhampton and won a seat in the city parliament in 1917, which he held for the next 5 years. In 1922 he resigned to run for the federal seat for Capricornia . He won the election and held that seat for 24 years (until 1946). In 1931 he became Minister for Customs Affairs under James Scullin and from 1932 was a leading member of the opposition.

Forde was Minister of War from 1940 to 1945 and Deputy Prime Minister from 1941 to 1946. In this capacity he became Prime Minister himself for 7 days after the death of Prime Minister John Curtin , until the national ALP elected Ben Chifley as the new Prime Minister. In 1946 he was appointed High Commissioner for Canada . He held this post until 1953.
